Your Opinions Don’t Count

One of the most difficult lessons to learn is that when it comes to our Clients and Candidates - is that our opinions don’t count. If you start any conversation out with “In my opinion”, you can almost be assured the person you are addressing doesn’t care. Our clients and candidates only care about one thing - WIIFM (what’s in it for me!) We have to listen carefully to the hot buttons of our candidates to identify an opportunity that will answer what is most important to them. We need to listen to the needs of our clients to identify top talent they need to hire in order to achieve the goals of their company. I’ve learned six words that have helped me develop strong candidate and client rapport - “I TAKE MY DIRECTION FROM YOU.” Those six words are very empowering and make the individuals on both sides of our sale feel we truly care about what is most important to them.

If you want to get to your next level of performance, become less opinionated, fine tune your listening skills and “take your direction” from the people you serve.
