When I entered this profession, I soon encountered other recruiters who had earned the designation of CPC - Certified Personnel Consultant. At that time this NAPS sponsored program involved a four hour Business Situation Interview, reading a library of books and taking an extremely difficult exam. Thank goodness the process has been greatly streamlined!
Every profession has credentials. When you go to an accountant you normally look for a CPA, when you go to the dentist you want a DDS or a physician MD. I’m sure you can tell already where I’m going with this….if you are not certified, why not? It is the highest professional designation in the recruiting profession and you owe it to yourself to earn this credential.
Over the years, there have been other certifications developed by both NAPS and ASA. Research these programs, select the one that feels right for you…and then take steps to become certified! If you are a recruiter reading this - you do not have to wait for your owner to pay for you to become certified. Set a production goal and when you hit that goal - treat yourself to the certification program. It is an investment in yourself - which is the best investment.
Wouldn’t it be a great accomplishment if more recruiters than ever earn their certification designation in 2006! Here’s to your success…Barb Bruno, CPC
