We’re entering that time of year again when OFFERS become a little more “tricky”. It is so important to make sure you ask additional questions of your candidates. The issues that surface are: Holiday Bonuses, Holiday Company Celebrations, Vacation time that can be earned if they work one day into 2006, and taking time off during the holiday season. If you don’t discuss these issues up front, you can have an offer rejected.
If your candidate wants to wait for their Holiday Bonus, make sure you ask the amount. An increase in salary can often more than compensate for a lost bonus. Depending on your client, it can be difficult to schedule time off for a new employee, so you need to have this discussion up front with both your candidate and your client. I have seen however, the company holiday party delay a start date. My theory on this phenomenon is your candidate wants to make one last appearance to impress another attendee. Tis the season!
Remember to stress to both your candidates and clients that the holidays are a great time to make and accept job offers. There is less competition this time of the year and you can start off your New Year with a fresh start! Just remember to ask the additional holiday questions to ensure your success in closing placements!
