I just returned from speaking at a State Conference in Waltham, MA. Thanks for the invite Cheryl Gillard!
The one thing that struck me were all the new faces in our profession! It’s very exciting to see the caliber of individual we are now hiring! It was also great to see many familiar faces and to sense the excitement at the owner session, when we discussed wealth building techniques. Business is good and we’re all having FUN again!
No matter where I travel the primary question is the same “How do we find the top talent our clients want to hire?” There is no magic answer, but daily recruiting calls are the best way to continually upgrade your candidate database. Set aside the hours of 9:00 - 11:30 AM for these recruiting presentations. These can be a combination of referral calls, targeted cold calls and follow-up calls. If you get in the habit of holding your incoming calls, and not answering emails during these two and a half hours - you will notice an immediate improvement in your candidate flow.
When leaving messages during this time frame, tell your prospects to inform whoever answers your phone to interrupt you no matter what you’re doing because you don’t want to miss their return phone call. This serves two purposes: FIRST: you will get the return phone calls SECOND: more people will return your call because you have made them feel important.
I also have to discuss one more topic today: THE IMPORTANCE OF PARTICIPATION! After the conference I had the opportunity to spend some time with the State Leaders in MA. I could sense their dedication to our profession and witnessed the great bonds that occur when you have a common goal. When you volunteer to help your State Association you will get so much more back than you will ever “give”! It gives you access to the expertise of these other leaders…and I can tell you they also have FUN. At least consider the possibility!
To those of you reading this who did not attend this conference - “Where were you?”. You can NEVER be too busy to continually fine tune your skills and network with others in our profession. Take advantage of educational programs because it does help you anticipate trends, improve your skills and for owners it definitely has a positive affect on your bottom line.
I hope to see YOU in my next audience! Here’s to an outstanding month for all of you.
