Watching the Notre Dame - Southern Cal football game yesterday was an experience filled with every emotion possible. The game was thrilling, fun, competitive, disappointing, amazing and gut wrenching and these emotions changed from minute to minute. I couldn’t help but compare this emotionally filled game to what recruiters go through during the placement process.
There are tremendous highs including:
a. Representing an MPC you know is a walking-talking placement
b. Receiving a job order from a full-fee paying client
c. Booking send-outs on your hottest order
d. Making placements
e. Receiving payment of your fee within ten days
f. Surpassing your goals
g. Earning more than you ever thought possible!
On the other hand, there are the gut-wrenching issues including:
a. Counter offers, No Shows, No Starts
b. Your client hiring an “internal” candidate
c. Having all your candidates “screened out” on your hottest order
d. Falling short of your goals and this list goes on and on….
What is the deciding factors in close games as well as closing placements? It’s the preparation, conditioning, focus and “can do” attitude, right up to the last seconds of the process.
In the Placement Process preparation is knowing everything there is to know about both your clients and candidates. Conditioning involves your ability to overcome objections, prep your candidates thoroughly, your willingness to put in the hours necessary to do your job and continual training to sharpen your skills throughout your career. Focus is vitally important to reach peak performance in our profession. Tenancity and focus have closed deals that average recruiters would have written off. Lastly, a “can do” attitude is that competitive edge that separates average producers from top producers.
Recruiters with a “can do” attitude view objections as buying signs, mistakes as learning experiences and obstacles as opportunities.
You are in the last quarter of the year and there is no reason you can’t make the “SUPER BOWL” which only includes TOP PRODUCERS! The great news about our profession is you can escalate your performance, the minute you make the decision. Starting today, become the recruiters others mirror because of your attitude, work habits, focus and of course tremendous success. Don’t sit on the bench, get in the game and WIN!
