READ JOB OBJECTIVES

Yesterday in the process of presenting candidates to our clients, I realized the job objective on their resumes could possibly become a “knock out” factor. Our clients want to interview individuals who see the opportunity they are offering as the next career goal of this candidate.

READ OBJECTIVES! If the first two lines of the resume state an objective that is NOT in line with your current search you have three choices:

1. Leave it as is…knowing your candidate may be screened out
2. Omit the objective from the resume - of course getting your candidate’s permission
3. Have your candidate revise the objective to reflect the opportunity with your client

Yesterday, I selected choice #3 and booked six send-outs from six presentations. When you think of how hard you work to surface TOP TALENT, you don’t want a job objective to prevent you from getting this candidate in front of your client.

How will candidates react to your advice? It depends on how you present your suggestions. If you show your candidate the “WIIFM” (what’s in it for me) and share the fact that the current job objective may result in their resume being screened out…..they are grateful for your advice!

Never forget - your job is to book send outs. Reading job objectives is just one step in that process!
